About this Project

Craft your own mosaic masterpiece with this terrazzo-inspired tray! A popular design for flooring and walls, terrazzo is made from stone chips embedded in resin and sealed with a glossy coat. Serve your guests a cocktail (or two!) on this DIY tray with a textured, yet smooth, finish.

  • 1
Paint entire tray with chalk paint and let dry. Set aside.
  • 2
For your terrazzo chips, use the 8" fondant rolling pin to roll out the polymer clay to about 1/8".
  • 3
Place terrazzo pieces on baking tray and put in your oven at 275° for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.
  • 4
For the base of the tray, roll out a single color until the clay is about 1/2" thick. Measure out the inlay of the wood tray and slice that shape out of the rolled-out clay. Roll up excess and set aside.
  • 5
Break apart the baked clay into tiny shapes and chunks. Place the unbaked clay base in a scattered pattern. Make sure to alternate colors.
  • 6
Place parchment paper on top of clay base. Smooth out entire base with rolling pin and remove parchment paper. Trim excess if needed.
  • 7
Bake entire slab of clay at 275° for 15 minutes. Let cool. Place back into tray and adhere down with glue. Let dry.
TIP: Seal top of tray with resin for a polished finish.
