Use a gauge of 6" x 4-1/2" in Rectangle Motif to crochet a blanket that measures 36-1/2" x 28". When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
Make 18 Rectangles beginning with Cloudy Grey as A and Melon Ball as B, changing where indicated in pattern.

Sew Rectangles into a checkerboard pattern, alternating colors, using photo as a guide.
Join Cloudy Grey in any corner ch-2 sp with a sl st.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in same sp, sc evenly around Blanket working (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner ch-2 sp, join with sl st in sc.
Rnd 2: Join Melon Ball, ch 1, sc in same st as join, *(sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sp, sc in each sc to next corner; rep from * around, sc in each sc to end, join with sl st in sc.
Rnd 3: Join Cloudy Grey, and rep Rnd 2.
Weave in ends.
A = Cloudy Grey
Adjustable Ring = Leaving a 6-8” tail, hold tail end of yarn in left hand. Make a ring by wrapping yarn around fingers, placing working yarn behind tail. Rnd 2: Join B with a sl st in any ch-1 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same sp as join, [(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp] five more times, join with sl st in top of ch-3. Rnd 3: Sl st in next dc and next ch-1 sp, ch 3, (6 dc) in same sp (petal made), *[(7 dc) in next ch-1 sp] five more times; join with sl st in top of ch-3 – 6 petals. Rnd 4: With A, sc in same st as join, sc in next 6 dc, dc in sp 2 rows below between petals of Rnd 2, [sc in next 7 dc, dc in sp 2 rows below between petals of Rnd 2] five more times, join with sl st in sc. Rnd 5: Working in blo, ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 2 sc, [(sc, ch 1, sc) in next sc, sc in next 7 sts] four more times, sc in next 4 sc, join with sl st in sc. Rnd 6: With B, ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 3 dc, * sc in ch-1 sp, ch 1, sk next 4 sc, (4tr, ch 2, 4 tr) in next sc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch-1 sp, sk next 4 sc, (4 tr, ch 2, 4 tr) in next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp**, sc in next 8 sc; rep from * to **, sc in each sc to end, join with sl st in sc.
