  • 1
Knead and roll clay until smooth. TIP: Mix colors by adding small amounts of color and twisting to blend.
  • 2
Start with two equal pieces of clay. Roll out into a log, measuring approximately 12" long.
  • 3
Fold each log in half and pinch clay together creating a U shape. Twist one clockwise and the other counterclockwise.
  • 4
Line up twisted logs to form a braid. Place clockwise on the right, counterclockwise on the left. Repeat to create additional braids. Use cookie cutter to cut out a heart shape from braids. Take the excess clay and roll into another log. Wrap the log around the heart and pinch in place.
  • 5
Smooth out any imperfections. Bake on an oven-safe tray for 20 minutes at 300 degrees. Let cool completely. Smooth away rough edges and wipe clean.
  • 6
Trace and cut a heart shape from cork. The cork backing should be smaller than the clay. Cut approximately 1/4" inside the traced line. Glue cork to back of coaster.
