About this Project
Coffee is not only craft fuel, it's also a craft supply! Turn ordinary coffee filters into bright and beautiful garland using your favorite shades of Rit Dye.
Create your own, snap a picture, and share using #ACMooreInspired.
1Cover table with plastic. Wearing rubber gloves, prepare dyebath by mixing hot water and Rit Dye. The ratio of water to dye depends on how many filters you’re dyeing and how vibrant you want them to be. For the filters pictured, we mixed 1/3 cup dye with 1 quart of water.
2Grab a stack of filters and dip them into the dye bath for a few seconds until you are satisfied with the color. Separate filters and lay on paper towels to dry for at least one hour.
3Cut thread to desired length of garland. Thread needle and knot one end. Fold one filter into quarters and then double it over one more time so it's shaped like a piece of pie. Create several stitches in center of pie piece. This will be your base.
4To create the garland, simply fold each filer into quarters and add to the thread. Continue until garland is the desired size. To finish, repeat steps for base on last filter.
