A fun back-to-school treat for teachers, these delicious doughnuts are decorated to look like bright, cheery apples. Use red nonpareils and sprinkles to add texture to your treats, then top them off with fondant leaves and a pretzel stem for a morning treat that is sure to earn you some extra credit.

    Prepare doughnut batter, then bake and cool doughnuts following the recipe found on package or follow the instructions found on this project.

    Combine 2 cups confectioners sugar with 4 tablespoons milk. Mix until combined. Tint glaze red.

    Carefully break pretzels into 1 inch sticks. Insert one pretzel into top of each doughnut.

    Dip tops of doughnuts in red glaze, tapping slightly to smooth. Transfer to cooling grid. Immediately top with red nonpareils and red jimmies. Reserve remaining glaze.

    Roll 3/8-inch ball of green fondant into cone shape. Flatten with finger, forming leaf shape. Using knife, form indent in leaf.

    Using knife, cut small slit in doughnut, near pretzel stem. Dip bottom of leaf into remaining red glaze, then insert into slit.
