Jacqui -- love your patchwork afghan -- i've been toying with an idea for a patchwork baby afghan -- lots of leftover baby yarn. I'd love to know where you got your pattern for the shawl. I love the colors and also the design. It looks like it works up fast. I sit in a very drafty cubicle and am looking to update the shrug I made 2 years ago (it's just not enough coverage) and your shawl is perfect! Thank you. Now that I have a digital camera, I am going to start to document all my projects.

pray I am still working on items for a craft fair in November. I am currently working on a 4-color purple blanket. The edging will be two rows of single crochet with the final row being shells. I think it will look good. The blanket has been single crochet, using the back loops only. It makes a firmer blanket, and stretches the rows.

How did you make the butterfly rug? Is there a pattern I can have? Thanks either way...

That was an Annie's Attic free pattern. I'll have to look for it but I'm sure I've got that one in my PC collection. I'll send you a copy when I find it.
It took a bit of putting together but it was worth it as my granddaughter loves it!

I am working on a bunch of things, but the item I worked on last night was a pattern from Lionbrand for a wrap around short sleeve sweater for my daughter. I made it already for my youngest in her choice of colors and now I am trying to finish one for my oldest. I have to get her approval on the trim color before trying to do the trim tonight.

As promised - here's the patchwork afghan pattern, in flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/82714470@N00/?saved=1 Looks like it won't highlight the whole address - you'll need to copy and paste to get to the page. I hope it comes out clearly enough to download! I've got to find the web address for the shawl - maybe tomorrow.

cakesarefun wrote:Teaching DD12 to crochet...I never thought it would be this hard! My DD is a lefty and 23. We've tried everything we could think of over the years to teach her to crochet. I was so disappointed when even sitting face to face didn't work. She's been talking with me a lot about the scarfs I'm making for Special Olympics' Winter Games so I believe she's ready to try again.

You will need to copy and paste the whole line there, not just the red bits. I just did that and it brought up the correct page. I'm not sure why this system doesn't make the whole address red.

I found the shawl pattern at http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/donisfuff/croshawl.htmlI did find the instructions a little difficult to follow in one or two places so it does need a fair amount of concentration to get it right. The finished result is worth the effort though.

What am I up to?? OK, I am currently working on special scarfs. It's stitched in the "V" stitch, and I'm calling it the "V" for Victory over Breast Cancer. A friend is participating in the Avon Walk here in NY, and she needs something nice to top off her fun pink outfit. So I plan to use the Fun Fur in bright pink and soft pink together and make skinny scarves! I am also making two scarves in Bernat Berella "4" in pink using the "V" stitch, these I want my friend and her walking partner to donate to patients. I'll post pics on myspace as soon as they are done, and I'll try posting here as well.

My mom is the knitter and I'm the crocheter.... Mom is knitting me a Danish Tie Shawl (from last quarter's "Spin Off" magazine) which is a beautiful pattern but she is finding it challenging. I'm working on a granny-square baby-blanket for some friends of mine who are adopting. I am not using "Baby weight" Yarn as I think its a waste to have a blanket they can only use for a few years-- I'm going to leave the edge of his blanket un-trimmed so the mom can add more granny squares as the child grows and the blanket can grow with the kid! (something I think is a cool idea.) The plan for the next 12 months is to learn to tool leather and spin my own yarn. :) Long-term goals, right! Edit: I've finished the blanket. I did add a small trim around the edge (it looked unfinished otherwise) but it is still able to be 'added on to' as the child grows. Just put another row of Grannies around the outside! :)

I've not heard of the growing-with-the-kid blanket idea before and it is sooooo cool! What a wonderful keepsake! GREAT idea!

Working on my own design for a Fall Afghan (no I don't write patterns, just see things in my imagination and then stitch them up. Also charity items for winter. Like hats, scarves, mittens, blankies and sweaters. So glad to be on this forum, I shop at AC all the time.

I'm making another patchwork afghan, for me this time, and am trying out a new shawl pattern in a soft cotton yarn I picked up at the Salvation Army thrift shop. It's a really big cone and I got it for $5!
