Do you like getting gift cards or not? Personally I love getting them. Its like having a present all year. Sometimes I don't use them for months but I always use them. I'm thinking of giving more this year as the people I buy for have everything they need/want so I'm really stuck. I will still buy some presents to accompany them.
What do you think?

I love getting gift cards - at least as long as they are for stores I frequent. I have been getting gift cards as Christmas presents for the past several years. Usually, I try to put something small with it. For instance, while I am not a great cook, I make a wonderful peanut butter fudge so I will often give a gift card and then a decorative container of fudge with it. I have been giving my brother and sister-in-law restaurant gift cards for the past several years. They have had some ups and downs with their careers for a couple of years so they don't often treat themselves to eating out, which they love to do, so I get them gift cards. Last year, I did a gift basket with some cheeses and crackers in it and then put the gift cards in. That way they had something to open, but it was something I knew they would use. So my rambling answer is yes, I love gift cards and I think most people do too.

I love getting gift cards. When buying them, be informed...such as, is there an expiration date...if the card gets lost...can it be replaced...and so on.

I get one every year from my neice and I love it. Last year I used mine at ACM. I also used to give my sister one from the grocery store. She used it to buy taxable items. It helped make her grocery budget go further. We have laws in this state regarding them.
They have to be good for TWO years. And the ones you buy from a mall have to be good at ALL the stores in that mall. There are some other rules, but those two are the main ones that the Attorney General talks about every year on TV. Oh yeah, they can't charge fees for using them.

Thanks for the input, I have bought gift cards in the past so I know about most of the rules of thumb.
I always thought it was impersonal to give them, I had thought that it was for 'lazy' shoppers, ummm...my thinking has changed. For the last couple of years my daughters have bought me cards to various craft stores and I loved them. They are so out of the loop on crafts and wouldn't have slightest idea of what I'd want. they have now reached the point in their lives that they are able to get whatever they 'need' or 'want' so to get them a gift just to buy something sounds impersonal.
Yep, I'll be buying lots of them.

I love to receive gift cards and sometimes when we give them, they are no strings attached (so not gift to open just a card/tin with the card in it) You can really get creative with where you buy a gift card to. Don't forget that places that don't have cards (minus the major credit types visa etc) you can get gift certificates. My hubby gave me a cert to a day spa one year and I've gotten salon certificates for a new hair-do.

I love getting gift cards. My sons who are 6 and 9 love getting them too. I think they're a great gift. I get creative when I give them. I've made gift card holder cards/boxes and given them that way. I've also done the soda bottle where you put them inside an empty 2 liter bottle of soda with some shredded paper.
