I would suggest that you put a colored primer down first if you plan on putting color on the walls. It will take less number of coats of the color paint.

i agree with frndly to use less paint and not have to put on more coats of paint you better prime first my husband has a few friends that are painters and when they come and paint they cover all the holes in the wall first and prim before painting any color on the walls and most of the times it only takes one coat of painting

I think I saw where there is a new paint out that has the primer in it. don't know the details but saw the advertisment, Seeing that I do my own painting that would work for me.
