I cringe when I see those shows. Especially the one where he made the big whisk and the cake was shaking all over the back of the van!

Cake Boss (TLC) is another show that amazes me. The amount of work and energy they put in to their cakes is mind blowing.

I love Cake Boss! I told DH I want to go intern there, I think I would fit right in!

No, that is the picture she wants me to copy. This one will be 2 tiers (the middle two) with white butter cream and green ribbon and green roses...

Cr8, no way your too nice to yell and throw fits like they do. And they are family. Do you see how they treat "Stretch" the driver kid. Ouch.

Is that a real ribbon you put around the cake? My son's cake was like that and his ribbon was made of fondant.

You have never seen me in the kitchen love. All my kids know when mommy is baking they better back off. Of course I show them the love by making cupcakes for them whenever I am making a cake they are not going to eat.

When we lived in Italy our Italian Pastor told my husband (in his thick Italian accent) "you better watch out for dis-a-won she was nota born in Napoli but shez a Italian woman for real."

I just don't swear.naughty

I use real ribbon. They don't want (and I can not afford) fondant. I am doing this cake for free as a favor since they used to attend our church.

I just this year convinced my Dh to put Italy and Japan on his dream sheet. I hope if we end up overseas, its Italy. I will eat until I burst.

I hate fondant. I always leave it on the plate. But it seems to be the "In" covering for a cake. Give me butter frosting anytime.

I just bought a 16 oz. package of 'powdered vanilla.' It seems like I go through liquid very fast. And it is so expensive. The plus side is that it doesn't discolor frostings, whipped cream, egg whites, etc. And it can be mixed right in with dry ingredients for a cake.

American Spice Company on line. I think Penzy also carries it.

Very pretty. When I got married 30+ years ago, my mom made my wedding cake. Back then, it was all about those little roses. I got married in September, and it seemed like she made those roses and froze them all summer long.

Hobbyaholic...

My granddaughter spent 3 months in Northern Italy and loved it. In fact the food is what she misses most. She did a lot of cooking there and found everything was fresh and cheap!

The roses are DONE. They are green. I don't love that they are green but I think they turned out very pretty. I will post pics when I get my camera back tonight from VBS!

Green Roses? Huh?

The reason I like the powdered vanilla is that it doesn't discolor white buttercreme or whipped cream. And when measured out, it is a lot cheaper than buying a 16 oz. bottle and lasts longer. You can mix it right in with your dry ingredients or disolve it in whatever liquid your recipe calls for.
