Less is more today. My son's wedding cake was white with just a ribbon. No topper, flowers, etc. The cake was delicious, but they used fondant, my least favorite. Left that on the plate.

Can't wait to see your practice cake. I wish I could ice a cake super smooth like that. That white and green is going to be lovely.

Glad she didn't choose fondant too, ugh yuck.

What are the flavors?

I am not the best cake decorator, but I do know that you need a large bent spatula for a smooth finish. I have three of them in different sizes. I have just about everything I need for frosting and decorating a cake, but my next purchase is going to be a revolving stand. I do all right with my beautiful cake stand that I received as a gift. But it would be so much easier to have the cardboard bottoms and the revolving stand.

Right now I use the trick of putting wax paper around the edges when I am frosting. But I don't like the idea of cutting the cake directly onto the plate. I would be heartbroken if something happened to the dish.

One day Addie I'm going to build one that will hold square/sheet cakes. I love being able to spin my project.

They have them...

My biggest problem with this cake is not the baking or decorating. It is the transporting & shelf life. I am handing it over to someone on Thursday to drive 4 hours to NC with it for the wedding Saturday.

So I have to think ahead and figure out the best way for them to store it and get it there in "one piece."

She only wants 2 layers so I think I will keep them apart and use dowels. If I put them in short enough the plate for the top layer should rest just on top of the bottom layer.

Since the lady who will be transporting the cake will have to "decorate" it at the event, I plan on measuring the ribbon and cutting it ahead of time. I am going to affix the glue on velcro dots. I am making extra roses.

Hopefully with careful packing, coaching and prayer she will get it there safely.

bless your heart, it will be just fine. MY mom used large cardboard and a lazy susan to decorate her cakes.

Scrap, those are supplies I've got. :-)

I can't imagine being in that ice cold car for 4 hours...wait now i'm thinking about it. Shes got 2 layers and they can pack a cooler. It will be just fine. Definitely if you build it the way you have outlined.

It would be awesome to talk to him, I have decided that once I hand it over I am not responsible. I can not stress over what I can not control.

I watch 'Ace of CAkes' on the food netwk channel and it always blows my mind to watch them transport their huge cakes. I also watch all the cake contests on that channel. Many many years ago I took the Wilton class for decorating, it was mainly for my girls when they were young and the kids just loved it.
I can appreciate all your hard work Cr8ive!
