Hi, I found this website for empty film canisters, maybe these ideas could be used for pill bottles: http://familycrafts.about.com/od/filmandpillbottlecrafts/Film_Container_and_Pill_Bottle_Crafts.htmThen I found this site: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/crafts/msg041121534829.htmlMy only question/thought is... can you clean them enough to remove ALL residue of the medication that was inside?

The bottles can be sterlized by boiling water. Or even alcohol. I prefer the boiling. I could supply almost every crafter here with the bottles. I use more than ten a month. Large and small.
BTW, when tossing out your med bottles, on the advice from a police officer, remove or damage most of the labels. Drug addicts will use them for their stash and try to pass off the name as their parents, g'parents or family member.

I bought a craft project for my children once that had plastic "crystals" that you could melt and form into little dishes, etc. I am thinking that is what the bottles could do. One thing to realize, this will STINK up your house so do it on a day when you can open those windows WIDE, WIDE, WIDE!

Yeah, when I was a kid my grandmother let me use a bunch of her prescription bottles for melting in the oven. I did the ones filled with a few beads. Who knows what ever happened to them but I remember it being a pretty neat process at the time.

It is neat. The ones I did with my children we melted them into bowls. I still have a couple of them, but boy did it S T I N K. Had to do it on a day when the windows could be wide open, but the smell still lingered for a couple of days.

OK...love the idea of putting a bell inside and crocheting a cover. I think that would be great for my dogs (and quite possibly drive me crazy in the end).
