In my attempt to avoid working on that monster of a sweater from the December Crochet Today magazine, I did a Broomstick Lace scarf over the past 3 days - and a YouTube video on how to do the Broomstick Lace stitch and make this scarf. And to really avoid working on that sweater, I even dyed the cream-colored 100% wool yarn with cherry, orange and grape Kool-Aid to get those shades of orange and pink. Kool Aid, really? Now that is new to me. It won't fade? Does it smell yummie?

Kool-aid is very cool for dyeing natural fibers (especially 100% wool). Doesn't smell now (it did when I was dyeing it), doesn't really wash out (although I gently hand-wash my own dyed stuff with J&J baby shampoo). I do a vinegar rinse at the end to "set" the dyes. You can also dye wool with with normal food coloring, and they usually produce more intense colors.

That is a BeAuTiFuL crocheted scarf. Love the idea of dyeing it with Kool-aid. I've learn in our business that it sure can stain up a mini van carpet fast. I should stop coming in here and checking these threads. I've been looking at yarn here and there and I'm afraid I'm going to get sucked in by some eye popping project. I just don't need anymore projects going on.
